I've considered suicide before but I know i'm just gonna die anyway. I just decided to live 100% on my own terms, which I recommend one do suicidal or not. I highly recommend Siddhartha by Hesse, Zen Mind: Beginner's Mind by Suzuki, Letters from a Stoic by Seneca for starters. All very easy reads, you can finish all 3 by this time next week.

>Sonne bräunte seine lichten Schultern am Flußufer, beim Bade...
>...Schatten floß in seine schwarzen Augen im Mangohain...
>...wenn sie ihn sah, Siddhartha, den Starken, den Schönen, den auf schlanken Beinen Schreitenden...

I didn't know this was a homoerotic novel. First page and already he's jerking off to him bathing and having nice legs and dark eyes. He fucks that nigga Govinda at the end, doesn't he?

Is pic related worth reading? Anythignelse by Hesse?

I'm asking because the Yes album Close to the Edge is inspired by it and I like that album and what to get it better. I already know the moral of the story is basically "you can only learn so much from other people, in order to acquire real knowledge and insight you need to go out and find it yourself by living."

Do people hate this because it's an inaccurate portrayal of Eastern philosophy, or just because it's dull?

Best translation for Siddhartha by Herman Hesse?
I've heard some praise for susan bernofsky and hilda rosner.

Which is better/best if you had to pick one?

people love this shit for some reason, even though it's 90% fabricated.

it's basically "buddhism lite"

Did this book give you any revelations.
Or anything you'd like to say about your experience reading it.
Also, what should one read to learn more about the period.

currently reading siddhartha and im getting really into it. What do you guys think about fasting (not necessarily for a religion)? Also, similar books that also deal with things like abstaining from various things?

I just finished pic related for the first time, and I really enjoyed it. I've been wondering recently about adapting the lessons into a more modern viewpoint, mostly the idea of loving everything in creation, since everything is connected. I'm not sure how this relates to modern things like machines and cities, are they also meant to be loved and honoured?

Idk I'm probably autistic and missing the point. I'm interested in reading more eastern philosophy books, I've already read and enjoyed Kerouac's the dharma bums (despite its weak structure and cohesion), does anyone have anything similar to recommend?

Why is it so beloved?

What's so great about a "dude deep lmao" story regurgitating basic Buddhist philosophy?

What song / album / artist pairs well with certain books? I don't listen to music while I read, but for some reason I associate some books with certain albums.
Pic related is what I'm reading and Fleet Foxes' S/T has been in my head most of the time.

Siddartha by Hesse.

It's interesting but not up to what I was expecting. Prose is good but the plot is so basic.

>Siddhartha had spent the night in his home with dancing girls and wine, had made a show of superiority before others of his standing, though he was no longer superior, had drunk a great deal of wine, and had gone to bed long after midnight, weary and yet agitated, close to tears and despair.
>For a long time he sought sleep in vain, his heart full of a misery he felt he could no longer endure, full of a nausea that coursed through him like the vile, insipid taste of the wine, like the dreary all-too-sweet music, the all-too-soft smiles of the dancers, the all-too-sweet perfume of their hair and breasts
