What's you favourite piece by him?
What do you think if his style in general?
Artfags also welcome.

Rhyme less modernists need not apply.

>Swedenborgs writings are a recapitulation of all superficial, opinions, and an analysis of the more sublime, but no further. Any man of mechanical talents may from the writings of Paracelsus or Jakob Böhme produce ten thousand volumes of equal value with Swedenborgs, and from those of Dante or Shakespeare, an infinite number.
What did he mean by this? Has anyone tried writing from Paracelsus, Böhme, Dante, or Shakespeare?

What the fuck is this guys fucking problem?
I read the tyger when I was a kid in some school book; I liked it, it stuck with me, and I recently remembered it and decided to look up the author to find out more.
Turns out he was some fucking schizo who had a bunch of visions of God and the devil and angels watching over him all the time, and most of his books are long epic poems detailing some mythology of his own creation and giving prophecies about random countries???
This is my understanding from simply skimming wikipedia articles, but I am fucking intrigued
Tell me everything you know about William Blake, stat!

What version of Dante would William Blake have read?
Could he read the original Italian, and did he read that? Or, if he read an English translation, what specific translation would it have been?
I’m not interested in which Dante edition is best written or most accurate, I’m only interested in whichever version William Blake would have read. I want to them read it myself to help in my Blake studies.

Give opinions on William Blake to an anon who’s never read him, I found a collection of his complete works.
Is he good? Is he bad? Would it be worth reading the whole thing? Anything I should read before, or is there anything I should know about him before hand? Is there any work of his I should start with?
Literally all I know is the Tyger, I know nothing about his life

Also, what by him is even worth reading, within the prose? I like his poetry very much.

The ancient Poets animated all sensible objects with Gods or Geniuses, calling them by the names and adorning them with the properties of woods, rivers, mountains, lakes, cities, nations, and whatever their enlarged & numerous senses could perceive.
And particularly they studied the genius of each city & country, placing it under its mental deity;
Till a system was formed, which some took advantage of & enslav’d the vulgar by attempting to realize or abstract the mental deities from their objects: thus began Priesthood;
Choosing forms of worship from poetic tales.
And at length they pronounc’d that the Gods had order’d such things.
Thus men forgot that All deities reside in the human breast.

One of the most influential artists over the 20th century! so astounding-- how his influence came in multiple waves... his reputation & interpretation changed so much. His prophetic poetry was the last thing to be admired actually. It took over a century to find readers.
He is a direct influence on people as varied as Yeats, Patti Smith, Wyndham Lewis, James Joyce, but even before being rediscovered-- he was read by Byron, Wordsworth, Coleridge, Whitman, Shelley-- artists like Dante Gabriel Rosetti & the "young ancients" & pre-raphaelites
You are already so imbued with secondary influences of Blake-- the path to him is only to follow any line of influence far enough. In english language work, you will get to Blake.
Start with the Marriage of Heaven & Hell
