Reading takes effort and patience and I don't enjoy reading anything, so I don't read books. Watching anime also requires some effort and patience, but it can be engaging enough, so I watch a few episodes sometimes. Video games take effort, no patience and can be very engaging, so I play them. Shitposting takes no effort or patience and can be engaging, so I mostly lurk and shitpost.

I am quite fond of the Sherlock Holmes stories written by Sir Arthur Doyle, but I must say some pastiche are leagues better.

The book The Last Sherlock Holmes by Micheal Dibdin story was brilliant. The plot has to do with Holmes and Watson going against the ripper. It shows Holmes in a more true light. He comes off as a bit of a horse ass full of malarkey. Which is how anyone would come off as if they were cynical and sarcastic as Holmes. He berates Watson and Lesterade when investigation the White Chapel murders. Yet he himself fails at preventing any more murders. When they are on watch in White Chapel Holmes orders Watson to get the police. He instead follows Holmes - disguising himself with mud - and he manages to find him enter a house. Holmes is dressed as a jew and is with a whore, of the same status as the victims of other White Chapel murders. Watson sees Homles kill the woman. Holmes is Jack the Ripper! Then the rest of the story (1888-1890) continues as it does in the Doyle story. But instead of Watson is planning the whole time how to kill Holmes. He finds more proof when he finds a secret house of Holmes that is full of notes and body parts of Jack the Ripper's victims. He has all the proof he needs. If you have read the story the Final Problem in the original story this one follows the same pattern. Holmes believes Moriarty is following him so he takes Watson to the Swiss waterfall. But the twist is Moriarty was not real and Holmes projection to himself. Watson tries to kill him, but fails. Holmes takes out a knife believing Watson is Moriarty. Watson convinces him otherwise. Holmes says " I wont let him (Moriarty) hurt you". Then jumps off the waterfall and commits suicide.

That book was the best one I have ever read leagues better than lord of the rings, brave new world, 1984, tons of Holmes stuff, tartuffe, Caesar, and etc.

Why could Doyle not do anything at this level? I loved his stories but Holmes and Watson felt more real in this than in any story he wrote. Watson is not just a blind follower of Holmes he is his own person.

The next pastiche that is better than any Holmes story is the 7 percent solution. It takes the drab and rushed Final Problem solution and turns into one of the greatest Holmes story to ever be written.

So I must ask why could Doyle not do this?
