All potentialities exist within the Pleroma, the Fullness of God, the Entirety. We cannot conceive of God, the Monad, the Absolute. We can only understand his emanations. His emanations, aspects or Aeons, exist in harmonious pairs. They are brought into existence by God's thought. One aspect, Wisdom/Sophia, attempted to apprehend the whole, the Monad. This resulted in a new though. An emanation of an emanation.

This is the Demiurge, Yaldaboath. He is the God of the Tanakh, the one who has a gender, demands genocide, demands blood sacrifice in Judges, and has less than perfect knowledge (he cannot find Adam in the Garden).

The Tree of Knowledge/Gnosis was brought into this world by the emanation Christ.

Each human being has a spark of the divine in us. It's how we can experience forms. The thing within us that experiences, our Atman, this is divine. But our wills are driven by causality. Our emotions by the flawed material world of Yaldaboath.

What freedom we have is clearly very limited, and often illusionary.

Yet we must still struggle in the ways we can. Struggle to attain the Gnosis. We must climb through ever higher levels of abstraction to know of God. Once we can come to know It, the doors to that reality, the Pleroma, will open.

Do not mistake Yaldaboath for the Entirety.
