Just finished the first chapter with that Katherine Gombert girl in the psych ward and this book is starting to give me some pretty fucking heavy feels. I'm not sure if I only think this because of DFW's suicide but this whole novel feels so drenched in sadness and depression. It's also very refreshing to read something that's actually anti marijuana, almost every time I've seen a film or novel deal with it it's been in a positive light.

What is the deal with Infinite Jest? Is it really as amazing as people make it out to be or is it all hype?

Why is Infinite Jest so hated?

I haven't read it, but the growing hatred towards it is intriguing. Books like The Fountainhead were pretty good and they're considered shit-tier here.

Hey /lit/, I'm interested in reading Infinite Jest but it's a long book so I wanted to be sure if it's worth the read and I'm the sort of person who refuses to not finish a book I've started. So I read Dan Schneider's review of it and he HATED, declaring it the worst science fiction novel ever written and perhaps the worst book ever written too. What are your thoughts on his review?
