Couldn't be me. I don't self insert so writing characters becomes very easy for me.

I just think about what stuff is the character made of and if the next action would be out of character or not.

Instead of trying to write smartest most beautiful special prose in existence using amazing intelligent finest words plucked straight from a thesaurus, why don't you just get to the fucking point?

Why don't you just tell the people reading your shit what you want to tell them?

Literally do whatever works best for you. I use a mixed method, I outline general points (ie. I know what a scene is meant to look like and what scheme the story is supposed to follow) and then eyeball the rest.

Oftentimes I question my relationship. I suppose providing you with a little more backstory will convey things better.

I met her at my boxing gym. I grew enamored with her, so much so that she became my oneitis. It was the kind of thing where I would creepily stare at, unbridled, unable to refrain from doing such. She quickly realized this and eventually starting meeting my eyes in return. This little game of our went on for several months. Incidentally, it took me 7 months to ask her out after I introduced myself to her for the first time. Well, actually, I asked to walk her home from the gym a few times until we starting dating and became an official couple.

The first few weeks were really something, let me tell you. There were a lot of things I learned about her in that time which really surprised me, even worried me. For instance, I learned her mother owns several clinics throughout the city and her father is a retired scientist, that her mother waited until she finished med school to have children. I learned of her two previous boyfriends-- both are rich Jewish kids, one goes to Harvard med school and the other lives in Boston and makes 6 fucking figures. Imagine how I felt when I heard that. I learned that she is a hardcore liberal who comes from a highly educated, well-to-do family. I have to pretend that I'm centrist around her. I don't doubt for one second she would break up with me if she found out I voted for Trump. Lastly, I learned that she's going to med school next year, which I will expound on later.
