/lit/ - Literature

So I read quite a lot, even by /lit/ standards (especially by /lit/ standards), but written word doesn't cause any emotional response from me. Take for example films or even mangas: they clutch me, I get invested, character dies - it can shook me. But this doesn't happen with books. Of course visual media are different than reading and of course there are works that can really touch me in some meaningful way. But I really wish I could read books like teenage girls read YA novels, just fucking cheering characters and all that, not just sit there unaffected. Or is it just normal and i'm retarded?

how the fuck do i cope? the day is just too damn long. my mind always gets me no matter how much i go hiking, read or meditate. i thought this sober lifestyle was superior to cocaine and alprazolam? did i get memed? or did i simply forget the pain the drugs bring and this new lifestyle is now my baseline happiness. what the fuck man i just want peace

If you had actually read his essay instead of the quote on the picture, you would have learned how: Arts, Philosophy, and the Sciences. Basically any substantial intellectual activity. But something tells me this doesn't suit you or anyone else in the thread.
