Guess I'll ask here: does anyone has the /lit/ pic of the recommended books in the Dune series?

I want to start the dune series but I'm sceptical as to whether all 6 books are worth reading. Which of the books in the series are worth it?

i picked it up form the 2nd part, after i watched the movie. it is so good, except for the "introspective" paragraphs. herbert's imaginative power was something else. i also love the chants/songs he drops here and there.

So, /lit/, what's the verdict?

I thought it was alright, a bit overlong in the middle. Could never get a feel for how technologically advanced this society was since they have space travel but the Emperor is defeated by space arabs armed primarily with knives

Why was the spice so valuable given that there are all these other methods to live way longer?

Should I read it? I am excited for the movie.

Can we get a dune thread going just finished the second book Messiah did Paul even have a choice?

I'm somewhat interested in the Dune books, but everyone I know who likes them treats them as the new communist manefesto
Is it as preachy as they make it sound?

Do people actually like this book? Someone convince me this is more than just 3000 pages of unremarkable spaceshit written in the blandest style imaginable

Currently reading Dune, and just got to Part 3. I thinks a good book, but does anyone else feel it really takes it's damn time?

It's still pretty good though.

I'm half way through the audio book and it's a fucking chore to listen too. Only slightly interested in whats going on and the characters come across as pretentious fucks

Is reading it better? I read the The Silmarillion and that has similar complaints about being hard to follow or get into but I enjoyed it.

I really enjoyed the stoicism of the Fremen, as well as the heroic journey of Paul (talking strictly about the first book here) and the author's political commentary. The world building was impressive as well. Any other books which have these elements? They don't have to be science fiction. Thanks.
