>And he descended upon Arda in power and majesty greater than any other of the Valar, as a mountain that wades in the sea and has its head above the clouds and is clad in ice and crowned with smoke and fire; and the light of the eyes of Melkor was like a flame that withers with heat and pierces with a deadly cold.

im re reading them now after reading the silmarillion for the first time, im only half way through fellowship, and honestly they are a lot better than I remembered so far at least, the descriptions and hiking simulator aspect is not nearly as jarring or boring as I remember, and holy shit they are absolutely top tier comfy. I would definitely recommend them

Fingolfin's a pretty cool guy, unlike his half-brother.

You guys don't know a thing

I'm not talking about all that stupid injected moderne day jewzzzzz and niggggg orca grr people of the east are sand niggers

Tolkien simply writes of a nostalgic time, presented through each race in a different manner.

Elves long for their homeland (valanor) just like he longed for home when he was fighting in ww1

The dwarfs were honor bound folk who would do anything for their homeland, yet they are displaced at almost all points in history

Men I could write about for awhile, but it eventually comes down to overcoming their natural weak will and pride, joining to get her to push back that which bring them to the brink, all while having a strong love for their kin of the WEST.

The hobbits give us the nostalgic feeling of children and being new to the world and it's wonder but also the sorrow it.

He writes about a simple time, away from post modern society and away from the industrial era. Although he detested nazis ( they bombed his nation what did you expect )

The dude was notriously catholic and was absolutely libertarian

If you argue against then you are refusing most of the shit he said on record...the man was most definitelyNOT A liberal anarchist.

Being young is rooting for the Valar and the West.

Being an adult is realizing Melkor and the East were right.

>Now news came to Hithlum that Dorthonion was lost and the sons of Finarfin overthrown, and that the sons of Fëanor were driven from their lands. Then Fingolfin beheld... the utter ruin of the Noldor, and the defeat beyond redress of all their houses; and filled with wrath and despair he mounted upon Rochallor his great horse and rode forth alone, and none might restrain him. He passed over Dor-nu-Fauglith like a wind amid the dust, and all that beheld his onset fled in amaze, thinking that Oromë himself was come: for a great madness of rage was upon him, so that his eyes shone like the eyes of the Valar. Thus he came alone to Angband's gates, and he sounded his horn, and smote once more upon the brazen doors, and challenged Morgoth to come forth to single combat. And Morgoth came.

How does /lit/ feel about The Silmarillion?

Despite its convolution, rather dry writing at times, and ostensible literary faults, the story of the Noldor is clearly the best, yes?

You sound like a hysterical asshole and a hate mongering faggot. I just wanted to talk about the Silmarillion. Please fuck off. I'd rather this thread 404 than it be filled with posts by some cynical douchebag.

If you want to talk about Tolkien's mythos then cool, but it seems like you just want to be an asshole.

Please grow up.
