This is a pretty cool book. It's completely made up of interview snippets with musicians, artists, producers, photographers, etc. There's like 50 different interviewees, everybody from Ron Asheton to Tina Weymouth. It's got some great photographs too. So far it's been a great read, as I've been going I've been listening to whatever album or artist is currently being talked about within the pages. The only issue is that most people who were involved with the punk scene aren't exactly 'philosopher kings.'

I liked it just as a window into the rock scene of the time, like reading an old zine. It doesn't realy have any merit as writing, not particularly.
What you want is pic related

this is a little different since it's told by like a hundred people, but it functions as a bio of an entire music scene. the interviewer would routinely juxtapose accounts that contradicted each other, too. a personal favorite, re-read many times

modern music?
>Big band, dixieland, jazz, swing, punk, rock, rockabilly, etc.

are you posting from a former SSR? what exactly is modern about those styles? Punk is the most modern, and that started in 1977 or thereabouts... whatever, grandma.

anyway, you lucked out, 'cause I like those styles.

Miles Davis autobio. for jazz. Please Kill Me for punk. Most of the best stuff I've read about all music is in album liner notes and zines, though.
