What the fuck? Nothing happens in this book. Guys wakes up as an insect, his family hates him, he dies. Waste of time. Pretentious.

Is this novel really about being Jewish but liking Nietzsche and the dissonance that causes?

>Just because they were in the book does not mean they were eating it.
I don't worry about them eating but it is rather unconfortable to have repulsive insects crawl through my books.

I might just put them into the oven later as a sort of final solution. I think that >>22599503 also had something like that in his mind.

I really wouldn't risk it in your place. Those Gallimard books are reasonably priced for whst you get and I don't think thst saving a bit would be worth the potential trouble. Insects in used books are very common, I sent back every of my Abebooks orders with the exception of one for this resson. Just get them new...

What did he mean by this? Where did he get the inspiration for this story?
If you haven't read it, it's only 100 pages, a really quick and great read.

I'm obviously projecting, but I felt like in our day and age, this story could have been about burnout or generally social failure. Being fired from a job, dropping out of university, all that. Your family will be disappointed, but compassionate at first. Once they realize you will never get out of this state and fulfill your duties towards the family to provide, reproduce, and just make your family prosperous and florishing, you're looked at as a disgusting, lazy, filthy burden that we need to get rid of.

It even matches because, the story ends on the parents transfering their social expectations at their young sister, who was not bothered by them yet, and thinking about marrying her.

But where my interpretation fails is that 1) did failure burned out NEETS already exist at Kafka's time? 2) Gregor really wants to get up and work he simply can't
So maybe it was about genuine disability, right? But I don't feel like a family would be disgusted at someone that is "genuinely" disabled.

Just throwing out my thoughts. What did yu guys think about it?
