That's funny. I met my best friend like this: I was smoking weed on a bench with my gf and she saw him walking and beckoned him over. They had met a couple of weeks earlier and she never told me about him. He seemed up my street so I asked him if he'd read the Psychedelic Experience. He said 'Read it? I'm imprinted on it!' and then I told him about how she had sat on me during a weird trip I was having and calmed me down by rereading the first bardo to me for about an hour. I felt as though our midriffs were one being and that she was the voice of the cosmos reminding me of my true nature. Yes, the clear light, it's all coming back to me... the forms are just products of my mind... ahhhh

I don't know Sanskrit, I just read it a little. I would start with Devanagari and then learn your favourite words you already know. Maybe the names of the gods, or some favourite mantras. You must remember that Sanskrit is modular. The sacred syllable ॐ is the basis of every other sound. All the vocalisations put together sound like aum. The Vedas are the breath of Brahman, in and out. Every mantra works like that. It's like the entire cyclical cosmology is embedded in the yoga system because the human body and ts chakras replay the world in the way that ontogeny recapitulates phylogeny.
