Just finished Stephen Lawhead's Dream Thief, it was Christkino
reminds me a lot of C.S. Lewis' Space Trilogy but more "hard" SF and less preachy

There are lots of prose translations of Beowulf that are easy to understand but those still don't provide a readily accessible narrative given the constant digressions in that poetic form and the scholarly footnotes required for unfamiliar terms and references. Your best bet is the re-dramatization illustrated by John Howe, which tells the plot as directly and honestly as possible, with no irrelevant sidetracking, and with full immersiveness and verisimilitude.
