I also liked Book Soup when I visited LA a few years ago.

What are some good books to have on your home bookshelf? I have $46.85 to spend to order books through Powell's website, but I don't know what I should get. I don't really want the kind of books you'd really only be interested in reading once or twice, I think I mean more along the line of manuals, cookbooks, guides, references, etc. Comics and novels and such are clearly nice, but if I ever want to read those, I can just check them out from the library.

Seriously though, I prefer my giant used bookstore or the Multnomah County Library.
