It's because they are romanticized in any form of media, so you learn to adore them automatically.
I did, too, from reading unhealthy amounts of male-authored literature as a child. Then I taught myself to romanticize guys the same way out of fear of being a lesbian.
Now I can appreciate both sides, though men are forever sweeter.
It's all a matter of habit. As for a book- any sickening romantic novel.
