I was thinking a bit more along the lines of the Simic Combine from MtG, allowing the users to create and modify creatures, including themselves. For instance, the leader can basically rest different parts of her brain in sequence so she doesn't need to sleep, and absorb oxygen and nutrients through her skin so she doesn't need to breath or eat, and the guild's creations as a whole help keep Ravnica's biosphere functional despite the entire planet being covered in cityscape, even the oceans.
