Greetings, /lit/erati, I have a small favor to ask. There´s an article I need to read, but it´s in a database my university doesn´t subscribe to. If anyone can access it and upload it somewhere for me, I´d be much obliged.

This is the article: http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1467-8705.1966.tb01315.x/full

Appendix II: Textual variations on the prophecy of Tiresias towards Ulysses

Richard Lattimore 1967
You will heart no joy in in this; and I myself am not happy, since he told me to go among many cities of men, taking my well-shaped oar, which act for ships as wings do. And then he told me a very clear proof. I will not conceal it. When, as I walk, some other wayfarer happens to meet me, and says I must carry a winnow fan on my bright shoulder, then I must plant my well-shaped oar in the ground, and render ceremonious sacrifice to lord Poseidon, one ram and one bull, and a mounter of sows, a boar pig, and make my way home again, and render holy hecatombs to the immortal gods who hold the wide heaven, all of them in order. Death will come to me in the sea, in some altogether unwarlike way, and it will end me in the ebbing time of a sleek old age. My people about me will prosper.

Robert Fitzgerald 1961
Here is a plodding tale; no charm in it, no relish in the telling. Teirêsias told me I must take an oar and trudge the mainland, going from town to town, until I discover men who have never known the blue sea, nor flavour of salt meat- strangers to the painted prows, to watercraft and oars like wings, dipping across the water. The moment of revelation he foretold was this, for you may share the prophecy: some traveller falling in with me will say: ‘A winnowing fan on your shoulder, sir?’ There I must plant my oar, on the very spot, with burnt offerings to Poseidon of the waters: a ram, a bull, a great buck boar. Thereafter when I come home again, I am to slay full hekatombs to the gods who own broad heaven, one by one. The death will drift upon me from seaward, mild as air, mild as your hand, in my well-tended weariness of age, contented folk around me on our island.

>Be a poet.
>Write a play in blank verse and prose.
>At the end of the play there is an epilogue in which a man and a woman exchange love poems and lines (based on the Song of Songs of Solomon).

>Be invited to hang out with friends.
>Before leaving, caught parts of these love songs from the Play, loose verses, and mix them up.
>Write down this verses, by hand, with pen on paper.
> Be planning to give them to some random girl at the party.

>Be at party.
>Without the courage to ask the waiter to deliver the poem to a girl.
>Drink. Be drunk.
>Ask the waiter to deliver the poem for a girl, and to show me and said that I sent it.
>Waiter delivers poem.
>Be nervous.
>Girl looks at me. Reads the poem. Laughs with her friends.
>Be thinking, "I'm fucked up, did not work."
>Girl comes to me.
>We chatted a bit.
>Pick up the girls phone.

>We arranged a dinner.
>Pick her up and go to dinner.
>Hand over another poem (slightly suggestive and spicy).
>We left the restaurant; invite her to meet my apartment.
>Be saying that I want to show my work desk and book shelf.
>We come to my house.
>Talked. Drink.
>I fuck her.
>Had already prepared another poem.
>Put another poem in her bag without her noticing.

>The other day she sees the poem in the bag.
>Reads the poem.
>Call me.
>She wants me to give her the dick again.

Seriously, guys, I think I found a new way to pick up girls. I'll start using always the same poems, and always pretend that I wrote them on the party, after seeing the girl, as if it had been written especially for her, inspired by her. For that reason they will always be on pen.

Hey /lit/erati:

I know you like to talk to each other about writing books/progress etc. It seems many of you are writing novels and scripts and other fiction modes.

I am a Ph.D. in 'English Lit.' though (year 2) and thought I would say 'ask me anything'.

Thought you might like to discuss the other side of the coin and hear/discuss the writing of criticism.

If not I'll dump some random 'writer' pictures I find amusing.

Hey lit,

What are yall's opinions about posting poetry and short fiction online? Is it a good idea to put my work on the internet, or should I be paranoid about plagiarists?

And if it is a good idea, what are some good hosting sites? I'll die before I make a tumblr.

i'm interested in /lit/ recommendations, especially if you own one or know someone who does. my first inclination is to get a kindle because i am partial to amazon.com, and i would get their cheapest one

however, i've read a little bit into "root-hacking" color nooks and such which would add more functionality (look at comics, surf the web, bla bla)

i don't really want a netbook.

thanks.
