/lit/ - Literature

What is a system, /lit/? I'm sure most of us have heard the word "system" in various contexts, such as in philosophical writings, instructional material about the natural sciences, literature, descriptions of governments and power structures, amongst other things, but which field of knowledge has the most "correct" definition of them?
Is systems thinking lumping stuff together? Or is it looking at stuff through a specific lens and regarding each thing as playing a particular role within a group of things?
Do systems, properly speaking, belong within the realm of humanistic thought, or to the realm of the natural sciences and their analytic methods? Does the same definition for the word "system" apply all throughout for every one of them, or is an equivocal term?
Finally, are there any writers or prominent thinkers who have shared their thoughts on this matter?
