Not the guy you're replying to but the first book of Wheel of Time was pretty much a shameful rip-off of LOTR.

The next few books were pretty good though, before the series turns to shit.

No, it's about the North vs the Union. It's really good, up there with Best Served Cold and certainly better than Red Country. Don't skip it.

I made this just messing around. I've read a reasonable amount of fantasy (albeit mostly stuff from the past couple of decades) and these would be my high recommendations.
