1984 - hated it, hate Orwell, mediocre author

Moby Dick - loved it, greatest piece of literature from the USA

Ulysses - fantastic, pregnant with meaning, a literary maze

Farwell to Arms - mediocre, the army bits, romance meant nothing to me

Lolita - adored it, prose so good it makes you tearful

Pale Fire - cherish it, another great

Blood Meridian - great, second best thing to come out of the USA

The Trial - bored me, dropped it half way, began it again a year later from the top, bored me again to the finish
