I had a similar idea once with a porous planet having uncountable caves underneath all the way to the core and I decided it would have some sort of luminous mist that was affected by the tides, since tidal forces still work underground. This list would also give light to plants and bring with it humid air that would condense on the cold stone walls. This would also create climate zones since the caves closest to the surface would get only the tip of the tidal crests for a short time while the lower areas would receive far more. Of course the cave architecture could delay the rising and sinking of the mist from the depths below, but they could make devices like long tubes measuring the effect of tidal forces.
I don't k ow if it would work for you, since you need a large body of liquid/gas to be affected by the tides.
