Some like Vaush are the same people in the sense that they came out of that whole internet nerd atheist debating scene and their views were based around coming up with the best arguments to dunk on / win in debates with religious people. The New Atheist thing ran out of steam so they moved on to dunking on alt-right 4chan guys. But I think that probably has a limit as well, and then they'll move onto something else.

But Vaush also seems like an anti-communist type who doesn't like the "tankies" for being authoritarian meanies, although he calls himself a socialist or something. But I think this goes to show that "socialism" doesn't really mean anything. I think anyone can probably call themselves a socialist but you don't see the word communist being co-opted as much. It derives from a different set of axioms and doesn't care as much about "debate."
