I spent my childhood reading books. I spent my adolescence reading online. And now I will spend the rest of my life in my childhood bedroom in my parent's house, seated on my armchair with my arms crossed, reading a novel. I will read my life away, my vitality and vigor and desire to interact and effect the world and others all fading away as I read. I will become an old man even before I have left nonage behind, a waxed fruit sealed in winter, every thing that distinguishs me from an in-animate object evanescing as I lie there idle and immobile and read page after page, blessedly always another page, until the last slumbering coal of desire and radiance has been extinguished in my heart.

Goodbye /lit/. I do not have the Will. I did not enjoy the summer of my life in the company of close friends and the affections of women. I do not stand in defiance against the stars as I strive to change the order of things. I am not a struggling artist trying to cultivate something of beauty in a rotten world. I am just a reader. I do not know how to be anything else.

So I am taking AP literature this year (yes I am 18), and these are some of the books we will read this year

Colson Whitehead’s "The Nickel Boys"
Margaret Atwood’s "Oryx and Crake"
August Wilson’s “Fences”
William Shakespeare’s “Othello"

The first and third appear to be social justice indoctrination academia garbage, but obviously I have not read any of them yet. I came in thinking we were going to read Dostoevsky or Heart of Darkness, or even catch-22. At least we have one Shakespeare.

If anyone read these, can they please weigh in?

Why isn’t German taught in American schools? Tried learning that shit at 22 and it’s easy as fuck for me besides the placement of verbs it basically just feels like English. It’s like my brain is wired for it. I tried learning French and Spanish in school but idk I never got them and was shit on the tests. German is the 3rd most spoken language as well, and Romance languages are gay as fuck.

Plus Goethe is either on the level or surpasses Shakespeare.

Im not a tranny but I wish I was born a woman my life would be so much better and easier. I mean Jesus imagine every level of you’re life if you were born with a vagina in the 21st century. If you’re average intelligence, can stay in shape or at least skinny, and are adequate at makeup, I mean Jesus just imagine it. At every moment everyone is nicer, everyone goes out of their way to do things for you and impress you, you can’t fail there’s always a safety net to catch you, beautiful and charming males way out of your league try and take you out on dates and every guy 6/10 and lower basically worships you and would do anything to kiss your feet much less be your bf. You could literally write a shitty book about your boring existence and the minor inconveniences you face from your position and how you’re so oppressed and get a publishing deal.

You’re protected at every level and nothing is expected out of you in return besides looking pretty.
