What are the benefits of reading novels? It's just entertainment?

I feel they help me get out of my head regarding loneliness and other bullshit... Also some passages touch my inner soul and make a strong impression that can last for a long time... However I can't really pinpoint if they really change me as a person or if they do a real effect or if im just coping with how powerless i feel day to day in my own routine

I feel reading is good for me but at the same time i feel im wasting my time because i have already read enough and i should just live doing something, but i feel so weak and powerless against life damn, it feels like my well of life is almost empty and that i have nothing to offer at all
