Is there a name for the belief that reason is never the motivation for our beliefs? Like, I can give a sound argument for why it is wrong to kill another person, but that is not the true reason I believe it is wrong to kill. Maybe it's because I learned about the Ten Commandments in Sunday school, or maybe it's because of peer pressure, or maybe it's because I can't help but feel sympathy for victims, but whatever the case the reason for my conviction is irrational. Is there a name for this position, or a thinker that it's connected to?
