Any good chuuni novels? I mean actual books. Like about a guy going to school, realizing he has some supernatural power, with some philosophy and edgy stuff. Doesn't have to be Japanese.

What I liked the most about Ever17 wasn't, in fact, its structure (which is great of course, unique but also more accessible / understandable than R11's), but rather the oppressive atmosphere, and the continuous feeling of impending doom it conveys. That being said I don't read a lot of sci-fi so I might be easily impressed.

I have mixed feelings about Subahibi. The prologue sounded like some cute yuri moege featuring the lucky star twins and some out of place philosophical bullshit and the Carroll / Rostand references which I wished to be cut off. I changed my opinion after reading the following chapters (Down the Rabbit Hole II, It's my own invention, Looking-glass insects, Jabberwocky) which were amazing. I liked how the wall between reality and fantasy kept being shaken by Mamiya's delusions.

When I first finished Swan Song (I found the normal end to be better than the good one btw) I felt like Aroe (autistic girl) was underdeveloped.
Her introduction made it sound like she was going to play an important role at some point, but apart from ending up raped in some bad end, she didn't do much.
Then (after reading some comments about the game) I understood that doing nothing WAS her intended purpose. As an idiot she isn't a big help, of course, but she doesn't hurt anyone either; her innocence contrasts with the cast's "flawed nature" you speak about.

As for Atri... try it if you haven't yet. Maybe I'm being biased about this one (the OST is nice and the comfy post-apocalyptic premise reminds me of one of my favorite mangas). It has some cheesy utsuge drama and turns out like the average "bruh machines have feelings too" sci-fi novel at some point, but its world-building is good.

Also, I'm fine with your ranking. I lost count of how many times I read Saya no Uta (since it's short, one or two sittings are usually enough). Still, this game is the main reason why I don't and won't ever regret digging into those niche porn games.
