>Or Slothrop is a paranoid schizophrenic and is seeing/hearing what he wants/needs.
I don't think that lines up with what paranoid schizophrenics go through. Also, he's been tested extensively.

>In that part I was referring to it as a creation of Slothrop's mind
Too goofy, too easy.

>you completely miss the point of that line?
I probably missed the point. I'm thinking that within the confines of the story, the lie is what is under the conspiracy's control, the rest is "real" or genuine. So for example, Slothrop isn't paranoid, there really is a conspiracy using him, following him, setting him up.

Traditional Publishing
Pros:
>you get to focus mostly on writing
>you must write a proposal to the publishers and sell your story to them
>you make 10-15% profit max, but they also eat all the risk and the costs
>self publishing is basically like running your own company
>you only need to do some simple marketing and reach out to readers
Cons:
>you make 10-15% profit max
>self publishing you make 70%+
>they’ll still require you to do all the leg work of a self published author anyways

How do you do trigger warnings, anon? So far I don't think I have anything that is really offensive but I am strongly considering my next novel and later ones to have increasingly idiosyncratic characters. I really don't want to warn people so much as show them in the first 13 sentences that there are characters who don't give a fuck about peoples' feelings. I really feel like a have to show the idiosyncrasy of this generation because if I don't it will all be forgotten and people will just imagine everyone was a pearl-clutcher in the earl 21st century.
I start off pretty early in my 2nd novel with the protagonist insisting that all women are fat and while I'm not trying to shovel everything ridiculous onto him I do want him to come off as uncomfortable to readers if not based.

My communist friend keeps trying to provoke me into arguments and it's getting obnoxious. The thing is (and I have said this to him many times), I truly do not care what belief system a person subscribes to. Honest to God. What pisses me off so much is that he provokes me, then presents his ideas as irrefutable gospel, and flat out refuses to consider any view not at least tangentially related to his own (because in his own words, "some things can't be considered because they're evil"). It's getting to the point where just ignoring him, pretending to agree, or trying to change the topic won't work because he just keeps pressing and pressing. I don't know what to do at this point because I refuse to stoop to his level of all-encompassing pessimistic retardom.

This. People are certain the world is ending because they can't imagine what else it might look like. It's this weird obsession but I don't even think it will be a self-fulfilling prophecy.

>dogma vs ambiguity
>the future of mortality
>cyclical nature of history
I am also doing something similar to this but it diverges in a way, are we on to something?
My setting is more utopian, feels quaint and rural peppered with the bizarre, after an attempted dystopian apocalypse. Primarily male protagonist but also female deuteragonist if not antagonist.
Hits on a theme of a world where faith has become sight, and looking deeper into what faith actually remains.
The cyclical nature of history in my view is tied to the immutable nature of men, and also linked to the way we form beliefs about ourselves and faith. So I want to show a supposed end of that history cycle utopia while building the case that nothing has actually changed.

I'd be interested in reading your book if you finished just because we're thinking about similar things but we may end up making very different statements in different styles.

>I am just surprised 14-15 year olds would ever even do this
North Jersey is a crazy place. The towns are small and super close to each other. So you have a middle class town full of suburbs, and five miles away you have a wealthy township where the houses have full basketball courts in their basements and helicopter pads in their backyard next to their tennis courts, and then 5 miles from there you have a straight up hood ghetto where drugs are cheap and plentiful. Want to know what that equation gets you when you combine it with white suburban angst and parental neglect? Violent, pleasure seeking, proto-nihilist with money, cars, and houses at their disposal. That combination ends dirty. Fun times, but dirty business.
>Were the girls partaking in this innocent-looking? Or were they the kinds you'd expect to engage in such behaviors?
The Valedictorian (female), half the cheer squad, and some volleyball chicks were there that night. You tell me.
>Do you think I personally know girls, say ones in my highschool, who have done such acts? Thr**somes and other related things? :(
I don't know you, your school, or where you live. So honestly, I don't know. From my experience, where I grew up was just different from other places. The school I went to was a private school that cost 35K a year. when you put money like that, and combine it with poor life direction and easily accessible drugs/alcohol at a young age. Well, shit gets weird.
