I am about half way through Eye of the World, and while I was expecting it to be much worse, I'm actually rather enjoying it. How many books will it take for me to hate it as much as everyone else does?

Read about 300 pages of this.

Not too impressed. There have been times when I was slightly gripped, but the mythos has failed to really reel me in.

Should I give it more time? Or is it over-rated?

Salutations /lit/
Help me decide which saga to get into next
I was going to read the Wheel of Time but a well read friend of mine told me its a whole load of Tolkien-based crap and then recommended I read The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie
Both are fairly big sagas and each will be a big time commitment, so which would you go for?

Tolkien's inheritor or a barely comprehensible, over-lengthy, formulaic mess populated with cardboard cutout characters?

I would probably agree with the latter regardless of how much I enjoyed them, they've got entertainment value but thats about it, they are pure escapism really.

Thoughts, /lit/?

It's not "great literature", and I can see it getting a lot of hate here for some reason, but it's been my favourite series since I was about 11, and it's damn good. It is a VERY long series though, (6th longest work of Fiction in the English language apparently).

So does this thing take place in a future Earth or something? One passage I was reading made a pretty inarguable reference to John Glenn, the moon landing, and the early Russian space program 'Salyut'. And in another passage, I'm told, someone sees a Mercedes Benz hood ornament in a museum.

And moreover, is this serious actually GOOD? I've heard mixed commentary.
