i'm really drunk and my google fu is failing me but there is a famous book from the late 19th century about greek mythology that literally everyone read and was heavily referenced by HP Lovecraft, I know this because I wanted to get a surface view of how people felt about mythology circa 1910 and came across this book that every literate person knew about back then
