Is it worth it to become an academic philosopher? It’s too fucking competitive, I feel like if things won’t go my way I will go crazy

Classmates talk about how Philosophers from the past are “old dead white men who’s ideas have all been proven wrong” and I get frowned upon for mentioning or quoting great philosophers in class. Why do people act like the history of philosophy is not worth rigorously studying? Whether I agree or not with Aristotle or Kant should not mean that their ideas should not be fully understood and analyzed.

>We must not forget that all philosophers are also poets.

* * *

It may be that they have been deceived about the real meaning of their writings. For in the "Book of the Dead" of the ancient Greeks, where a man is punished for writing the name of God, he is not told that by doing so he had fallen into the first sin of the universe; instead, he is told that his sin was in writing of the name of God.

Not going to ask /adv/ so ill ask here, is going to grad school for Philosophy the worst path to go on? I can’t stop reading philosophy, I wouldn’t spending my time reading the texts in their original language. Doing extensive research and one day writing a dissertation. Big passion of mine but man that market is fucking suicide fuel. Should I go if I get all tuiton paid for? Thoughts?

Did anyone after the Presocratics write philosophy in based verse?

One path only is left for us to
speak of, namely, that It is. In it are very many tokens that
what is, is uncreated and indestructible, alone, complete,
immovable and without end. Nor was it ever, nor will it be; for
now it is, all at once, a continuous one. For what kind of origin
for it. will you look for ? In what way and from what source
could it have drawn its increase?
I shall not let thee say nor
think that it came from what is not; for it can neither be
thought nor uttered that what is not is. And, if it came from
nothing, what need could have made it arise later rather than
sooner ?
Therefore must it either be altogether or be not at
all. Nor will the force of truth suffer aught to arise besides
itself from that which in any way is. Wherefore, Justice does
not loose her fetters and let anything come into being or pass
away, but holds it fast.
