I like that since Goolag and other NPC net have exiled me to monastic hermit cyberspace I can simply read books fiction and nonfiction all my free time. I don't watch Netflix and have gotten good at filtering most Audible titles. I ignore 200 page business books and all the new bullcrap book stores rehash.
I read through my whole wishlist faster than I dreamed of. But the books people gave me as gifts remain unread. The books I need to study to do what I need to make a living remain slogged at half miserable pace.

I've been seeing articles on how psychedelics can be used to treat depression. The way they phrase it is "medicine for people who don't respond to typical anti-depressant treatment". Seems like a good thing, right? A way to reset yourself? But I can't help but see it as just a component in a larger problem. Like how you need to use stronger antibiotics the more you use them. Work your standard 9-5 job, watch some entertainment. Then when you feel like a little bit depressed, take your reset. Now get back in your wagey-cagey, and do the same thing, but now you tolerate it again.

Hi anons, I am not trying to sound like a shitposter or whatever, but I have a genuine question. Can one read too much/can reading be a waste of time?

I have cut out a lot of wasteful hobbies recently, like tv, vidya, and porn. I have tried to spend my time more consciously. I have been working out more and reading etc. But I also feel like I am wasting my time by living in my head.

Our culture seems to sneer at people that suggest reading is a "waste of time" even in the slightest, but I feel like I am living in my thoughts far more and when I wanna sit quietly in my garden and listen to the birds, I just *have* to bring a book along. Sometimes I want to take a month away from reading too, but it feels like sacrilege or like I am embracing being an NPC.

Anyone else get this feeling?
