An anon went to a monastery to learn the truth of existence. Upon his arrival, the master asked him if he was based or cringe.
"Based", he answered, and the master hit him extremely hard with a stick, dislocating his shoulder.
"Cringe, cringe then", the anon yelped. The master struck him again, shattering his kneecap this time.
The anon howled in pain, scared and confused.
"What was I supposed to say?"
The master stayed silent, dropped his trousers, and defecated on the floor. The anon was immediately enlightened.

Tantra is sort of a hole in my knowledge as well. But at least for jonang I think the main route was through the yogacara/cittamatra/shentong lineage, tantrayana being somewhere in the curriculum. With shingon the emphasis was on the maha-vairocana sutra so it's more obvious (to me anyway) how they arrive at the notion of a Buddhist cosmic self.

I have been into reading Buddhist texts for several years, before the emergence of hyperreal zoomcath posturing against millenial scepticism/atheism/agnosticism, and it is indeed charming to see people seethe about other people questioning ghastly afterimages of Christianity. When Christians overthrew the pagans they made sure to smash and burn whatever they could so it is just atavism. Without a state sponsor it comes across as kind of ridiculous to gnash your teeth at people that don't agree with you. Jesus didn't tell you to be this way bro
