Johnny Depp was also bros with him and they got hammered and shot guns. He lived in Hunter's basement for a while so he could imitate his mannerisms for film.

That said, I love Thompson. He sparked teenage me to read non-fiction and explore my own mind. The Great Shark Hunt and Kingdom of Fear are great collections; I have Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72 here that I'll get to eventually and, I'm sure, I will love.

I have a torrent of all his recorded footage. There is this great one with Conin O'Brian (sp?) where he comes on stage handing off his liquor, and then drinks what is obviously more liquor from a coffee mug. They then cut to a scene in the desert somewhere and Thompson shoots, then says "I need a beer" and lets out the most primal scream I have ever heard. He would have been in his 60's.

If you haven't read Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas but have seen the movie, it is literally word for word minus I think two minor scenes. The movie Where the Buffalo Roam with Bill Murray is also an excellent portrayal of Thompson. Notably in this movie, most scenes contain a nitrous tank of some size hidden in the background.

I want to know something /lit/. What makes The Crying of Lot 49 postmodern, but Kurt Vonnegut is not? I get that it's a pretty ill defined genre but I really can't see how the line is drawn. With the understanding I have now, I feel like even something like Odd Thomas could fall within the technical parameters.

Can someone clue me in? Is it just talent? I fucking hate Vonnegut and know Koontz isn't the strongest author. I just feel like it has to be more than simply talent, but I don't know.

Enlighten me pls.
