An anrcho-syndicalist American analytic philosopher and linguistics professor was teaching a class on Bertrand Russell, known logician.

”Before the class begins, you must get on your knees and worship Russell as the most influential philosopher of the 20th century, even more influential than Jacques Derrida or any other continental philosopher!”

At this moment, a brave, psycho-analytic, Hegelian Marxist philosopher and cultural theorist, who fully recognised the weaponisation and ideological basis of instrumental rationality, boldy stood up and tugged at his collar.

”My god, pure ideology! How can you ignore the work of Lacan and the Frankfurt School and so on and so on, like that? ”

The arrogant professor smirked quite Jewishly and smugly replied “Continental philosophy cloaks trvialities in fancy language and uses the scientific-sounding term 'theory' to describe propositions that could never be tested empirically. ”

”Wrong. If empricism is so important, as you would say, then how come you were so empirically wrong on the Khmer Rouge and Cambodia, and so on and so on?”

The professor was visibly shaken, and dropped his chalk and copy of Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus . He stormed out of the room crying those unironic empirically verified crocodile tears.

There is no doubt that at this point our professor, Noam Chomsky, wished he had pulled himself up by his bootstraps and become more than an outdated linguist and blindly analytic philosopher.

He wished so much that he had an argument to save himself from embarrassment, but he himself had advocated for truth derived from empirical investigation!

The students applauded and all dropped out to transfer into the École Normale Supérieure that day and accepted French philosophy as superior to both German Idealism and the Anglosphere's Analytic traditions.

An eagle named “Critical Theory” flew into the room and perched atop a burning American flag and shed a single tear on the dropped chalk. Sections of Lacan's Seminars were read several times, and the Spirit of Hegel himself showed up and demonstrated the nature of dialectics so vividly that everybody in the room progressed to a trans-physical state transcending conventional notions of time and space.

The professor lost his tenure and was fired the next day and was forced to become a panelist on an MSNBC news show to make ends meet.

The brave psycho-analytic philosopher's name? Slavoj Zizek.

So what does everyone think of Zizek?
Are his views relevant and well thought through or should he be considered a "Jester" and "a Troll" like the mainstream media claims he is.

>meanwhile write entertainment pieces for The Guardian to finance your hair dye and hat collection there's some dissonance
Your argument is appalling. You really are just trying to claw at anything for some bizarre desire to attack her. Tell you what. Why don't you go and read one of her books, come back later, and then tell us what you didn't like about her arguments, instead of trying to invalidate her arguments by saying she's an evil person for dying her hair. I mean really, "She dyes her hair so she's an evil consumerist?" it's not only a fallacious argument, it's pathetic.

seriously. fuck that movie. None of the elements which made the novel great were included in the film, it was literally stripped to a cheesy, racist worthless narcissistic exercise for audrey hepburn.

How come that, out of all the thinkers and philosophers of our time, Slavoj Zizek is so popular? I was watching a video of him lecturing, and there were like hundreds of people there!

A lot of goddamn drama in this thread. a lot of goddamn drama on Lit in general.

The key to public speaking is practice. Rehearsal. You write down what you want to say, or just frame it very clearly, and then you say it to yourself. Over and over again. Practice the speech in your mind. Practice it verbally. Take long walks on park paths or other places where you won't encounter many people and just repeat it to yourself over and over. Refine it. Listen to your voice as say the lines and tweak the intonation to make it more powerful.

Public speaking is basically acting. This is how actors rehearse. Once you have your material straight and firm in your head you can deliver it without fear.

My favorite public speakers are Terrence McKenna and Slavoj Zizek. Besides their wonderfully idiosyncratic material, what makes them so good is that they have a corpous of ideas and annecdotes that they memorized very well, and dliver in slightly different ways at each public address. If you listen to just one it sounds as if they're speaking off the cuff. If you listen to a large number of thier speeches you'll recognize that they're actually resusing the peices. They've got some units that they know very well and could repeat in their sleep. Then for them it's just a matter of weaving them together in a way that suits their audiences.
