What are the best books about music? Ive been reading chris ott's book on unknown pleasures and Im really liking it so far.

I don't think I have ever finished a book before. Where should I start?

At what age did you guys start reading 'serious' literature (aka anything not YA or genre fiction)

Hey /lit/, I'm kind of at a dilemma right now. I have been reading the Bible some recently, and a lot of the messages by Jesus and His apostles, especially those about greed and lust, really resonated with me (Matthew 6:24 is probably my favorite). I consider myself an idealistic person, and I identify and agree with a lot of Jesus' teachings and see him as a good source of moral guidance.
On the other hand, I was raised an atheist and find it hard to believe in God. At best, my faith in His existence comes down to believing He had a hand in creating this world, but hasn't really played a role since.
My question is, can I truly become a Christian if I am mostly just following the moral principles of the faith and less so believing in God? I can explain myself further if this doesn't make any sense.

Do any of you purposely read bad literature to make you realize what good literature is? I would bet most of you here receive recommendations on what books are good, and haven't read a truly awful book.

Recommend me the best stand alone Fantasy book you know /sffg/, I've fucking had it with 6-10 book long sagas.
Mythological, Sword and Sorcery, Edgy, whatever, anything goes.

Who is a good fantasy writer of short stories?
I am currently reading Lord of the Rings and though I am enjoying it a lot, Tolkien sure takes his time telling things so I'd like to have something short and to the point to read in between.
Sci-fi is acceptable as well but Fantasy is preferred.

Is it worth reading Unfinished Tales of Numenor and all those other Tolkien works that are not Hobbit/Silmarillion/Lord of the Rings?
I haven't looked into them all that much but they are technically unfinished works that were edited by his son, right? Are they good?

Shit man, I am a slow reader so that is quite a commitment.
How is each book as a stand alone? I assume the main plot so to speak doesn't get resolved until the very end, but does each book have like its own individual conflict that gets (mostly) resolved within itself?
