I was like you. In my 20s and started working in fast food, still felt like I was essentially a NEET because I worked like 3-6 hours a week. Through some twist of fate I got promoted which was honestly even shittier but it forced me to take more responsibility and interact with people more, so it helped in the long run.
Eventually I figured out what my passion was, and I went back to school with a new mindset and am kicking ass. Started going to the gym, lost my virginity, in a happy relationship now etc.

So I'm planning to read this book. The story for it sounds interesting. However, since it's a much older book, I'm curious to know what exactly the context was for this being written. Can anyone provide me with an explanation or will this version of the book give me that without spoiling anything.

What was his problem?

I'm exactly like the main character from Notes From Underground
I even tried to kill my parents with a knife when I was insane, like the main character close to the end of the book trying to punch his friends at all cost
Should I jus kill myself already? Is there any hope for me?

I found the ending so unsettling
I had read Crime and Punishment before Notes From Underground, so when I read about Liza, I thought to myself: "Yep, they're going to love each other, and their love will fix the main character's problem"
But no. He rejected her and lived the rest of his life in pain, in his Underground.
Be honest, is there any "good Ending" for the main character? Is it even possible for him to get himself out of this situation? The book seems to say that there isn't a good ending. Everyone like him will have a terrible live and here is nothing you can do about it
