Now that /pol/ is going to leave this board forever thanks to based Hiro, can we talk about African literature now?

All I remember about this book is that my High School Freshman Honors Lit class was so bored by it that literally none of us finished it. Were we all just brainlets? Is it actually any good?

I don't remember much about this book other than it's very, very big in Africa (like, read in every high school big) and it was also a comfy read.

Most of the African literature I'm aware of has a lot to do with foreign presence (go figure) so I imagine a variety of these texts would be cool to read while staying there as a foreigner.

I want to read at least one thing from every major literary movement, time period, and culture. What movements, time periods, and cultures should I pick from?
