Hi, /lit/
I am a student majoring in English literature.
I am not a native English speaker. I had problem understanding a usage of a word while I was reading The Catcher in the Rye. Holden was sleeping at one of his professor's place when he woke up to with strange feeling. I don't remember the exact sentence describing the scene. All I remember is his professor put his hand on Holden's head. and then Holden run out of the house. In this context, the word 'head' means the top part of a man's penis?

I've just finished Catcher in the Rye, and yes, it was for a class. I enjoyed it enough, but I want to know-- what was the point of the whole thing?

So has anyone gone to the Princeton library and read The Ocean Full of Bowling Balls?

I'm planning a trip there because I'm sure as hell not waiting 50 years to read the prequel to The Catcher in the Rye.

If anyone's read it, what were your thoughts?

So it's that time of year again and I am going to re-read Catcher in the Rye for the 3rd time. Are you mad phonies?

In all seriousness I am looking forward to how my perspective on it changes, if at all. I first read it when I was 16 in high school and deeply related to the main character. Read it again last winter at 18 and I more so enjoyed revisiting the story and how funny parts were.

So now I am going to read it tonight all in one sitting. Quite fitting before we go visit all our families full of adults and children. After reading Crime and Punishment I now view CITTR as a sort of Crime and Punishment-lite but I expect to enjoy it.

Hello /lit/

I'm handing in an essay tomorrow on The Catcher in the Rye, and right now I'm just reviewing what I have. What I'm readjusting now is my opening hook. I want to grab the reader's attention with some sort of quote that relates to the book, but I'm having trouble choosing which I should use.

I'd like to hear your opinion on which the best to use would be, so here's the list of possible quotations I have thus far (continued in next post):

The greatest protagonist in the history of modern literature.

Discuss.

I'm already turning 23 this year and I can still relate to this book.

Help me grow up /lit/.

Holden Caulfield was a blatant homosexual-in-denial, most likely because his no longer present father raped him.

Hey c/lit/,

I have a project due tomorrow about Holden Caulfield from Lolz in the Rye; what are some books/movies he might like?
