I've always believed that writing even a single book doesn't take a few months, it takes a whole life, in the sense that your experiences and the people you meet form you as much of a person as an author.

In the case of Sasha, I feel her road in life eventually led her to writing, whatever it is she published. I'm not mad that she got published, I'm actually kinda happy for her, but i do agree that a lot of bulshit books get put in the market all the time. But it exists for the sole reason that someone somewhere will buy it and enjoy it, if not, then what the fuck are we even alive?

So yeah, in short, the biggest slut in all of history published a book, so what? If even she can do it, it means we've got nothing but possibilities.

Ok /lit/ I've been reading a lot of philosophy recently and am considering getting into psychology. What are some books/philosophers you'd recommend? I'm obviously going to read Freud, Jung, and Pavlov, but who are some other important figures I should read? Also, is Lacan the Derrida of psychology?

>Psychology as a Science (yes, it is a real science).
>Dalhousie University in the fabled Canadas.

My recommendations are all going to be pop-psych books since textbooks can be really dull.

>Paradox of Choice by Barry Schwartz
>Blink by Malcolm Gladwell
>90-minute effect by Eric Morse

Also, not psychology related:

>Civilization and it's discontents by Sigmund Freud

I had always regarded Freud as a Jewish pseudo-intellectual whose importance was either vastly overinflated or completely manufactured by other pseudo intellectuals. This was likely because 95% of my knowledge of him consisted of him believing that everyone wanted to fuck their mothers and kill their fathers.

I got curious. Coincidentally I happen to have some ancient books by Freud gathering dust for well over a decade. So I got into it a bit. I jumped in right for the dream interpretation book (still no idea if this was a mistake or not), 'cause I've always considered myself something of an avid dreamer. Anyways, it took a few days but I was convinced that this man not only earned the recognition he got but even more than he got. All of his theories, they, well, simply made sense, and his analyses seemed like the work of a brilliant mind exposing the dark etc. etc.

So, what would be the recommended reading as far as psychology is concerned? (I checked the link in the sticky, didn't find anything)
I wikipedia'd some of Jung's, uhm, work and it seemed interesting as well. Though I didn't quite get how the whole collective unconscious thing could work with rational science.

oh, hi /lit/

does anyone know any good secondary literature on Freud? to be specific- on his theory of psychosexual development.

in a conversation like this, usually Scientific critique and Feminist critique is brought up, but I'm looking for somthing special.

any help would be much appreciated.

greetings, /lit/

there are 2 days left for me to complete my course work (something like a whole year's assignment) and I have nothing. although I study philosophy, I choose to do this work in psychoanalysis.

the title of my course work is "Making of man. psychoanalitical and gender study aspects". basicly, the idea is to examine Freud's views on psychosexual development with emphasis on male development and to comper his views with leading opinions of today.

Freud's works I'm going to use:

Three Essays on the Theory of Sexuality
The Dissolution of the Oedipus Complex
Some Psychical Consequences of the Anatomical Distinction between the Sexes
Female Sexuality
A Special Type of Choice of Object made by Man

the problem is I don't really know with what should I compare Freud's views. What are some leading thinkers of psychosexual development today? I've heard something about boyhood studies, but it's preaty damn hard to find some usable texts in this field.

So any tips or suggestions? any help would be much appreciated.

(pardon my english- not a native speaker)

No, it's because you're deeply insecure about your sexuality and your inability to control the world.

>mfw you seriously believe that

You live in America, right?

Because if you lived in Europe, chances are you would at least have second hand experiences of the daily struggle of living under the soviets. To be constantly assaulted with propaganda, where your families standing with the party will determine how what jobs will get. A society, where the state will abuse psychiatry and section you if disagree with them, where you aren't allowed to leave the country without being interrogated by officials, where George Orwell, and similar anti-totalitarian literature, is banned, where you can't trust any official information because of the incessant political bias, where international news sources have their signal blocked, where the unemployed are labelled 'parasites' by the government and where you, and everything you have, is a possession of the state.

You do not know, sir.

/lit/, I am in need of help. I would like some kind of name for a band that goes with the theme of Freud. More specifically, a play on words about Freud or his work. Assume this is a general punk band. Thanks!

This is not my proposition, this is the proposition of centuries of psychoanalytics.

It is widely accepted that abstract reasoning, creativity and critical thinking ability are inherent traits in our character and have nothing to do with socialisation or knowledge.
