Beauty, at the same time seems like something that evokes a transcendental feeling in us, where everything seems to be in tune and it touches us deeply in our soul, but the longing for beauty can also seem like an act of hedonism, because we are longing for that good feeling that beauty provides us with.
Are there any books that discuss this duality?

as an atheist this board has been making me feel unwelcome lately
I don't feel like being religious is a choice so I am being treated as a second class citizen for simply not having an attachment to belief. It's just not there, that doesn't make it my fault does it?

How do we reconcile postmodern philosophy with evolutionary philosophy? Both are the radical opposites, one asserts social production of everything, whereas the other postulates biological human nature. If we synthesize them we will get the best theory to date. I just know it.

Be honest fellas, how bad is it:

I got back in Eugene pretty late on Saturday and it’s been chilly ever since. But the sun is always poking through so I can always go to either the river or Skinner’s Butte to get a good view of everything. I’ve been busy with my health insurance, parking garage companies, the US passport renewal system, and getting license plates for my car up here the past few days. Everything decided to pile on at once as I was leaving San Diego and chased me up here. The city is rather empty and less people are here than I thought, so I was overjoyed to bump into my friend Drew the other day. He’s a unique character with his own long, strange story I’ll tell you about some other time; but he’s in a cheerful mood every time I see him. We became friends back in 2019 by meeting in the apartment’s hot tub within our first few days here (true love isn’t dead), and he brought some friends over the other night. Wonderful time, my apartment was trashed for days afterwards. Also the novel I’m reading is on another one of it’s strange larks. The book sadly isn’t anywhere near its predecessor in terms of quality but sometimes one of its little side-plots gets intriguing for a bit. The main character is helping this bizarre inventor who rails against standardization and wants to get people in the early 1900s to build his personalizable kit automobiles themselves instead of buying them standardized from a factory. Despite being more cheap and efficient -he argues- this spells the death of creativity, individuality, and ingenuity in the medium. And he resolves to fight against it tooth and nail for as long as he can. I have to applaud such laudable behavior in all situations. (1)

>pain is now hated much more than was the case formerly; one speaks much worse of it; indeed, one considers the existence of the mere thought of pain scarcely endurable and turns it into a reproach against the whole of existence. The emergence of pessimistic philosophies39 is by no means a sign of great and terrible misery. No. these question marks about the value of all life are put up in ages in which the refinement and alleviation of existence make even the inevitable mosquito bites of the soul and the body seem much too bloody and malignant and one is so poor in real experiences of pain that one would like to consider painful general ideas4° as suf ... feting of the first order. There is a recipe against pessimistic philosophers and the excessive sensitivity that seems to me the real "misery of the present age,-but this recipe may sound too cruel and might itself be counted among the signs that lead people to judge that "existence is something evil." Well, the recipe against this "misery" is: misery. (Gay Science §48)
where were you when Nietzsche off handedly btfo pessimism?

I love to sleep more than anything in life.
And I dont mean with anyone else, but simply lying in bed, from falling asleep, the duration of sleep itself with all the dreams and nothingness to the slow, torpid act of waking up.
Is there a book which has a great focus on sleep and the pleasure of it (without harping on dreams too much, because that is not exactly what I mean)
or am I gonna have to write it myself?

Sometimes for whatever reason I come up with rhymes in my dreams, and wake up with them still emblazoned on my mind. Do you have anything similar?
Tonight I dreamt:

>I jump from dark tower to tower,
pruning every little flower.
