Actually the Catholic church is very cunning. They do what I call the "double falsity, one easy, one subtle". They combine two falsities, one of which is blatantly wrong, and the other of which is much more subtle. This way, everyone will rush to counter the easy one, thereby implicitly granting the harder one without even realizing it.

The easy falsity: the ludicrous idea that Jesus instituted the papacy as an office for Peter and his successors

The subtle falsity: the underlying assumption that Peter was in any way the father of the Catholic church in the first place

Everyone counters the easy falsity because it's so obviously wrong, and the Catholic church insidiously wins because people don't even realize they're implicitly admitting the subtle falsity
