The only reason evil could possibly occur is if God intended for it to occur. How can this be reconciled? Morality is an illusion.

After reading The Birth of Tragedy, I find myself struck by a number of the ideas among Nietzsche's metaphysical backdrop. One of these is Nietzsche's statement that the only way the world can be justified is as an artistic phenomenon, and that a metaphysics based on morality can only ever refute and deny life, as even a cursory glance at world history reveals that humankind has existed under extreme suffering and adversity that its periods of happiness have never come close to matching. The implications of this on Christianity are astounding and profound. I used to write off the Problem of Evil as trivially solved by a consideration of free will, but after becoming less dogmatic and more open to ideas I've realized its complexity and depth. I've started to think that its the defining philosophical and existential problem of human existence, the Problem of Evil specifically just being one of its many forms, formulated in the language of moralistic monotheism.
