Elantris by Brandon Sanderson. Pretty great novel, and his first one surprisingly, so I think he's actually gotten worse over time since a lot of his more recent stuff wasn't nearly this fun.

The Desert Spear, book 2 of the Demon Cycle, by Peter V. Brett. Sequel to the Warded Man, I had an anon tell me he found this book a pain, but I'm enjoying it a lot right now. Jardir is a pretty compelling antagonist character.

Probably start the Age of the Five trilogy by Trudi Canavan. I managed to get the whole set in mass market paperback at a used book store the other day for under $10 total.
