Let me see if I can explain this.

More often than not, when an author is describing an intelligent alien/non-human species, they sometimes make these species look at humans with awe because of the way humans express sentiments like hope and love.

Are there any authors that make other beings have these same feelings? Or even better, make it seem like humans are dull in comparison?
