Historical pagans didn't sacrifice bulls (or large animals in general unless they were slaughtering them to eat) at their home altars. They usually made libations of alcohol and offerings of sweet baked goods, and occasionally small animals like geese or chickens on special occasions or as thanks for miracles. The sacrifice of large animals like bulls and horses was done as part of public civic religious rites officiated by an elite priestly class or political leaders.
