It's entertaining and occasionally touching, but it isn't though-provoking or clever. Obviously these books don't pretend to be so, but folks who have never read anything but pulp wouldn't know any better. One virtue I can say at least is that the characters do go through change, which I value in anything, even lowbrow TV. Jordan's dialogue can be pretty good, but his narration is awkward; decent storyteller, sub-par writer. Good worldbuilding, though.

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines literature as "writings in prose or verse; especially : writings having excellence of form or expression and expressing ideas of permanent or universal interest". In this essay i will argue that fanfiction shows no excellence of form, no excellence of expression, nor does it express ideas of permanent or universal interest, and hence does not classify as literature.
Firstly, fanfiction is generally very poorly written. This has resulted in fan fiction failing to have an excellence in form. next i will talk about fanfiction's poor expression.
