Kant is literally the dude you're looking for, OP. His tiny Groundwork of the Metaphysic of Morals is dense but rewards the time and effort you spend.

You'll get way, way more out of it, I think, if you read it a couple times and also read Kant's Search for the Supreme Principle of Morality by Samuel J. Kerstein as well. It's really lucid, clear, packs informed by loads of existing Kant scholarship, and is generally super-helpful in contextualizing and interpreting his difficult text.
