Overrated

I walk the same streets this man writes about everyday, I talk with the same archetypes of people that he creates. But, I still couldn't connect with it bros. I wanted to love it, but after reading it I can't help but feel as if I've missed something. What's wrong with me?

I read this recently and don't quite understand the praise. I enjoyed a few stories and I appreciate the idea of creating a book that encapsulates how people interacted and felt in a certain city in a certain time, but most of the book bored me. I didn't take much away from it either. Can someone explain why people seem to love it so much?

Just about to read The Dead and then I've finished with Dubliners. Where to next with Joyce?
Also, general Joyce thread since there are a few specific ones right now.

I have just finished Araby, the third story. And this book is making me so worried about my reading ability –I can only pick up on small parts of the stories' meanings; for most of it I have to go on sparknotes or something.
That being said, I do like the writing style.
Will this problem ever be solved?

Why does /lit/ even like this Joyce guy?

Is there a market for short story collections nowadays? How about short stories connected by a loose thread?

"A few light taps upon the pane made him turn to the window. It had begun to snow again. He watched sleepily the flakes, silver and dark, falling obliquely against the lamplight. The time had come for him to set out on his journey westward. Yes, the newspapers were right: snow was general all over Ireland.
