>life affirming
>life denying
Stop using these phrases. I affirm life and deny death, and yet I die. I deny life and I affirm death, and yet I live. Live and death go hand-in-hand as a married couple. One is incomplete without the other. Saying one philosophy is good or bad because it affirms one state and denies the other is folly. Move toward balance and completing the puzzle.

It is often believed that pleasure/happiness is a self-justifying goal; that working toward pleasure for pleasure's sake, whether its the pleasure of a group or just yourself, is meaningful and good by virtue of itself. This also applies to the absence of pain. This just obviously leads to hedonistic egoism, or its coping counterpart, "ethical/altruistic hedonism"

My question, however, is if there is anything other than pleasure that is self-justifying? What should one seek in life beyond mere pleasure and happiness? please explain your answer as well.

Pretentious no, he didnt seem to be making himself out to be important or anything like that. It was just a poorly described tragedy. The content is depressing, but its presentation, my god
