What do I need to read before starting Kant? I've read: The Republic, ECHR by Hume, Meditations by Descartes, and Candide by Voltaire. Anything I'm missing? Also, I've heard Kant can be difficult to understand, so any good supplementals you guys know of would also be helpful to know

He says, like Harris--and sidenote--he loves Moore: That we can derive oughts from studying, scientifically, human nature.
I rebutted with: Isn't that violating Humes rule--that an is does not derive an ought.
He said, not exactly, because it doesn't necessitate an ought, but can still produce one.
I said how?
He said, if a fact makes us happier or improves our lives, then it's good.
I said, but that's relative, plus, why should we desire happiness
He basically responded with categorical imperative and seeking happiness is self-evident.
I said, how is it self-evident?

It just is. You can ask why all day, but where does that get you? What world would you rather live in?

HAS HE NOT HEARD THAT GOD IS DEAD? IS HE TOO AFRAID TO ACCEPT REALITY? or is he just trying to be intellectually responsible, so I don't justify murder or some shit? Or, to the few big brains on /lit/--am I missing something?
